Silence

Convinced of a need for quiet to foster and maintain the spirit of recollection so essential to prayer, the Sisters endeavor to observe silence at various times and in certain places.  During Ordinary Silence (all day Monday – Saturday, except during lunch, and ending at the evening meal) we refrain from a recreational attitude, speaking only when our work, charity or other circumstances require it.  Sacred Silence begins at 9 pm and ends after Morning Prayer the next day.  We also observe Sacred Silence all during the Easter Triduum and on retreat days.

Prayer

Prayer is our life; the irreplaceable means by which we come to a better understanding of our dignity as daughters of the Church and spouses of Jesus Christ.  Through the daily Eucharistic Sacrifice we renew our covenant with the Lord; it is the fount from which our service flows and the chalice to which it returns.

As a community, we raise our hearts to the Father in the Liturgy of the Hours.  To honor Mary, our Queen and Mother, we daily recite in common five decades of the rosary.  Privately, each Sister daily devotes at least one-half hour to mental prayer, one-half hour to adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, and in the spirit of continual conversion some time in examination of conscience.  To increase and enrich our life of prayer and recollection we spend a minimum of two hours weekly in spiritual reading of Holy Scripture, spiritual classics, and lives of the Saints.  During the school year, the Sisters observe a monthly retreat day.  The Sisters also make an annual six-day silent retreat.
